5 Best Area's to Live in Derbyshire

Derbyshire county is located in the heart of the UK, and was once the beating heart of the industrial age of England.


Stretching all the way from the borders of Greater Manchester, through the beautiful Pennines and down to the Black Country. As you would expect this offers a hue variety of locations to live along with many different types of living, from city centres to rural isolation, Derbyshire has something for everyone.


Based on this, we thought it would be a good idea for us to share some of our favourite locations to live in Derbyshire.


Belper


Belper is located just 5 miles North of Derby and has a semi-rural feel to it, being on the doorstep of the Peak District. This small parish town has the three C’s - Character and Convenience and Charm.


The character is expressed in the ancient buildings dating back to 1250, that are still in use today. Convenience, for the reason of great transport links via road and rail, having a train station, also many amenities and shopping is easily access in the town center. Charm for the beautifully displayed narrow high street with many planted flowers giving it cozy feel. The town also benefits from numerous parks and a local nature reserve.


With a population of 21k in the 2011 census, the town does offer a wide selection of houses for different budgets. According to Rightmove “The majority of sales in Belper during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £202,334. Detached properties sold for an average of £292,582, with terraced properties fetching £174,91”


The rental market is in short supply, so if there are options not hesitate to make a decision.


Bakewell


Mentioned in our best areas to live in the peak District; Bakewell Situated on the River Why, it is a small 12th Century Market town in the South East of the Peak District.


Best known for its famous confection the Bakewell Pudding. The Town has many amenities and attractions close by, including Chatsworth House (a Stately Home open to public), Haddon Hall and the Monsal Trail.


With a population of 3500 this town has the potential for good rentals as well and opportunities for buying; however you will need deep pockets for this attractive village.


According to Rightmove “The majority of sales in Bakewell during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £430,026. Detached properties sold for an average of £563,462, with terraced properties fetching £320,764”



Darley Abbey


Darley is a suburb of Derby, only 1 mile from the City Center. Having the advantage of being walking distance into the city but also has the distinct suburb feeling with leafy streets and parks- such as the lovely Darley park on the River Derwent.


Suitable for types of people relocating, especially for families that have children of school age, as there a are good schools close by and plenty of activities for all ages being so close to the city.


Darley currently have 34 Properties for sale on the market and 20 properties to rent; a reassuring figure for such a popular suburb, there are options here for both renting and buying of all budgets.

Long Eaton


This a hugely popular town that DreamMove have relocated many families to previously. Having great access to two cities ; Derby and Nottingham via the A52 or the Tram line in minutes, it is ideal for commuters that work in either.


The suburb itself has a well-nourished high street full of shops and supermarkets, you also have a selection of really good pubs and restaurants on your doorstep. Furthermore you have access to the beautiful walks of the River Trent and connect canal systems- this is a must see on you your orientation trip!


Housing is abundant with a population of 37k, allowing for a variety of budgets and style of housing to suit everyone’s needs, and obviously schooling for secondary and primary due to the size.

Ashbourne


Located in south of the Peak District, Ashbourne is a village with a population of 8k in the 2011 census. Ashbourne has a English charm and character with the market town dating back to the year 1257.


Ashbourne is the perfect town for access into the peak district, with hundreds of beauty spots withing in 30 minutes’ drive, such as Dovedale and Ilam; some of the most picturesque parks of the UK.


Somewhat isolated from larger towns, Ashbourne still has everyone one could need within the village, having big supermarkets like Aldi and Sainsbury’s in the village; along with a exemplary number of shops on the main high street.


Housing is varied, everything from small cottages, flats bungalows to Mansions. There should be something for everyone here. However if you are looking for a rental these as generally in very short supply.
