Cheshire is County in the North West of the UK and often described as one of the most desirable places to live in the UK. Mainly due to the wide range of activities, natural beauty spots, quaint villages and Market Towns the area has to boast. With a population of 1 million, there truly is something for everyone here.
It was extremely difficult to decide our top 5 areas to live in Cheshire, there are many other locations to consider within, but these ones there was no doubt in our mind they deserved to be there.
Knutsford is located in the east of Cheshire, It has the advantage of being nestled in between the Peak District and the Welsh Border, If you have access to a car this would be ideal for any outdoor enthusiasts as this is perfectly positioned.
Furthermore, Knutsford sits on top of one the best known Country Estate’s in North of the UK – Tatton Park. Managed by the National Trust, Tatton Park offers plenty of activities throughout the year – from charity runs and classic car events to the RHS Flower Show, it truly is a place that is brilliant for the whole family.
The Town has a population of 12k and offers a brilliant selection of food stores, restaurants, bars, coffees shops, kitchen and clothing stores. What is most pleasing is the idyllic market streets that are a quintessential old English style, giving character and charm to the town. The flight path of near Manchester Airport goes over the town, so this is something to consider when picking the right house.
Housing is more expensive the closer you are to the town, however if you are will to sacrifice size for location there are good deals to be had. According to Rightmove Properties in Knutsford had an overall average price of £496,706 over the last year.
The majority of sales in Knutsford during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £694,894. Semi-detached properties sold for an average of £391,698, with terraced properties fetching £346,707.
Rentals are widely available and there is a good supply different types of housing, however there is a shortage of apartments in Knutsford.

On the River Dean, Bollington is situated just 18 miles South of Manchester and just 3 Miles north of the Larger town of Macclesfield. Being on the door step of the Peak District and great transport links to urban areas; Bollington population has grown considerably of the years due to its fantastic location.
The industrial heritage of Bollington is clear to the eye, reflected in Mills and classic 18th Century worker houses. This adds a character to the town that other nearby more modern residential areas just don’t have. Bollington is also famous for the Battle of Waterloo Monument called White Nancy, that can be found on a beautiful Hillside.
There is a decent supply of great pub’s such as the Bulls head and the Poachers Inn, which are well worth a visit for paint of English Ale.
Hosing is significantly cheaper than its nearby gentrified Villages such as Prestbury and Alderley, it has a larger supply of rentals.
According to Rightmove Properties in Bollington had an overall average price of £310,326 over the last year. The majority of sales in Bollington during the last year were terraced properties, selling for an average price of £225,660. Detached properties sold for an average of £477,994, with semi-detached properties fetching £284,000.
Overall, sold prices in Bollington over the last year were 8% up on the previous year and 3% up on the 2018 peak of £300,163.
Wilmslow is a large town in Cheshire with a population of over 30k; located 11 miles South of Manchester and only 2 Miles from the Manchester International Airport. Thankfully the flight path does not go directly over Wilmslow.
Wilmslow does have its fair share of international companies such as AstraZeneca and Barclays Bank, but also is an ideal commuter town with great motorways links. The train station is on the London line taking just 2hr 15 min to get there.
There is a good supply of Schooling in Wilmslow such at St Anne’s Fulshaw and Wilmslow Highschool, making the town an ideal location for families of all ages.
The High street is packed with amenities from Supermarkets to an Aston Martin dealership. You will not be disappointed with the selectin of bars and restaurants to choose from, there surely is something for everyone here.
Housing is in very good supply, and there is a good range for all budgets and rentals are plentiful. According to Rightmove Properties in Wilmslow had an overall average price of £512,874 over the last year. The majority of sales in Wilmslow during the last year were detached properties, selling for an average price of £738,406. Semi-detached properties sold for an average of £424,013, with terraced properties fetching £301,988.
Overall, sold prices in Wilmslow over the last year were 9% up on the previous year and 18% up on the 2018 peak of £433,412.
Lymm is a town taken straight out of the picture books. The Bridgewater Canal and The Stilton Brook meet in the heart of the village to create focal point like no other town, with heritage dating back 250 Million years! Home to a dinosaur footprint.
Located in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, Lymm is perfectly located to access the M6, 10 minutes from Warrington and also just 45 minutes from Manchester City Centre.
Lymm has the benefit of having lovely canalside walks and also a fantastic Dam which you can walk all the way around, great for talking the dog out no matter the weather.
The main high street does have plenty going on; bakeries, restaurants, pubs and markets. Don’t think this little village is subdued, it packs a punch of activities. There is also a great big Sainsbury’s just outside of the village.
Housing is relatively scarce with a population of only 12k. According to Rightmove Properties in Lymm had an overall average price of £374,811 over the last year. The majority of sales in Lymm during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £345,755. Detached properties sold for an average of £571,882, with terraced properties fetching £299,308.
Overall, sold prices in Lymm over the last year were 8% down on the previous year and 4% up on the 2018 peak of £359,150.
With a population 48k, Northwich is a town where there is something for everyone. There are approximately 7 small suburbs of the towns itself, including the lovely Rudheath and Winnington. History dating back centuries to the Roman period, this is reflected in the architecture of the town centre.
Famous for The Arley Hall crossing the River Weaver, home to Lord and Lady Ashbrook, and has been in the family for over 500 years. There has been a massive boost for the town since the £80 million investment into the Baron Quays development, which is a fantastic all round Shopping, Entertainment and Leisure Centre.
The River Weaver runs through the Town, there are some beautiful walks along the banks, and close by is one of Cheshire most visited attractions; Anderton Boat Lift.
Transport links are good, with a train station linking to main stations Chester and Stockport. Also access to the M6 is ideal for commuters using the Motorways.
Housing is affordable and there is great range of house types for all budgets. According to Rightmove properties in Northwich had an overall average price of £212,816 over the last year.
The majority of sales in Northwich during the last year were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £189,177. Terraced properties sold for an average of £143,126, with detached properties fetching £337,450.
Overall, sold prices in Northwich over the last year were similar to the previous year and similar to the 2018 peak of £213,058.
